Job Description:

The Plant Manager is a hands-on position that is responsible for overseeing the department managers and staff in regards to the daily operations of the facility, ensuring safe and efficient packaging while simultaneously maintaining quality standards. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, planning, production management and scheduling, packaging, maintenance, staffing and training.  In addition, this position is responsible for building a culture of safety, quality, continuous improvement, and high performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Leading a team of managers in a high volume brewery that focuses on quality and efficiency.
  • Supports both the President and Chief Financial Officer in managing the daily production operations of the brewery.
  • Designs, manages, and is responsible for all planning, scheduling, materials management, packaging, maintenance, and training.
  • Working directly with the Packaging Manager to analyze packaging operations efficiencies and overseeing the preventive maintenance schedule to help improve overall line efficiencies.
  • Learning and operating the production and packaging equipment. 
  • Providing daily “hands-on” interaction, management and training of team members.
  • Supporting department managers by empowering them to develop and hold their employees accountable for meeting performance standards set forth by management.
  • Overseeing the development of SOPs associated with production and operations, maintenance, environmental and safety compliance.
  • Working directly with the Human Resources department to ensure business objectives are achieved in the areas of staffing, training, safety, insurance, regulations, and employee relations.
  • Working directly with the Safety Manager to oversee the safety and compliance program.
  • Participating as a member of the Food Safety committee to ensure at all times the plant complies with the plan.
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as determined by the President, including but not limited to costing, strategic planning, and administration.
  • Developing monthly, quarterly and annual managerial reports used in financial review, budgeting, capital projects, and forecasting.
  • Leads the communication across all production departments to advance the flow of information and accomplish the short-term and long-term goals of the brewery.
  • Allocating time to observe all production functions performed for all shifts, including weekend shifts.

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and move 170 pounds regularly.
  • Must have the ability to regularly stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb, work from heights, stoop, kneel and crouch.

  • The ability to work in loud, wet, cold, hot, indoor and outdoor environments frequently.
  • Hours may vary if emergencies arise (typical workweek = 45 hours). 

Job Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job effectively.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least 15 years’ experience in manufacturing, productions or operations.  Brewery or other food/beverage experience is a plus.
  • Six sigma certification and experience with lean manufacturing is a plus.
  • Proven success in a leadership role managing department heads and employees is required.
  • Extensive experience and understanding of aseptic packaging procedures, cleaning and sanitation, preventive maintenance, team motivation and management, record keeping and data analysis.
  • Strong overall understanding of OSHA regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of computers (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Positive attitude with an ongoing sense of urgency.
  • Ability to understand and execute against deadlines.
  • Excellent time and people management skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
