The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for managing all quality assurance (QA) functions and working with cross-departmental leadership to continuously deliver high quality beer, process design and compliance programs, and monitoring and reporting of performance. From hiring technicians and supervisors to leading incident investigations, the QA Manager establishes and maintains a quality system to ensure Beau’s, its people, methods, processes, and procedures, are aligned with their quality policies and standards, as well as government regulatory standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • ​Assure quality products and processes by establishing and enforcing quality standards and testing protocols. This role is the gatekeeper who ultimately owns the decision to release beer to market, and to recall beer from market.
  • Establish quality and reliability standards by understanding beer and consumer requirements, and communicating such to other members of management and with production operators, technicians, and engineers.
  • Develop and enforce raw material standards by studying manufacturing and engineering requirements, collaborating with the purchasing function on product specs for suppliers, and devising testing methods and procedures to ensure supplier compliance.
  • Implement and enforce in-process product inspection standards in relation to beer manufacturing and packaging and manage the testing methods and procedures.
  • Establish standards for the disposition and lifecycle of finished product through evaluation tests, methods, and procedures.
  • Provide direct reports with senior-team approved KPI targets and the support to reach quality goals, equipment and staffing budgets, hiring and training support.
  • Ensure adherence to sales forecast schedules by allocating the correct resources to brewing/cellaring/production needs
  • Institute rework standards that get product back to market through inspection and physical testing methods and procedures.
  • Create product quality documentation systems by working with management to develop and update quality assurance procedures.
  • Maintain product quality by enforcing quality assurance policies and procedures and government requirements.
  • Collaborate with other members of management to develop new product and engineering designs and manufacturing and training methods.
  • Oversee and update product and process quality reports by analyzing and summarizing quality information and trends.
  • Oversee QA operational requirements through long-term and short-term planning, assigning employees and following up on work results
  • Develop a QA team by collaborating with HR to recruit, select, onboard, and train employees.
  • Manage goal-oriented QA team performance by developing, rewarding, coaching, counselling, and disciplining employees.
  • Ensure quality by planning, monitoring and appraising job results.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by being involved in educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies and certification programs.
  • Achieve financial objectives by preparing the annual QA budget for senior team approval, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree in appropriate discipline, such as food sciences, chemical engineering, etc.
  • Experience with QA measuring and testing equipment
  • Five to 5-10 years’ experience as QA manager in the beer/beverage industry
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal safety requirements and legal standards
  • Working knowledge of quality management systems and their requirements
  • Experience with Microsoft and Google suite of products

Working Conditions:
Job to be primarily performed within the brewery facility. Occasional work may be performed outdoors as needed. It will also involve occasional weekend and off-site work.
