Job Requirements:

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Shape the direction of the Great Central Brewing Company Quality Assurance Program
  • Stucture the long and short term goals for the QA program in a collaborative partnership with the CEO and Plant Manager
  • Adhere to GCBC’s quality standards in all areas of the Brewery as set forth by the Plant Manager, Director of Packaging and Director of Quality
  • Complete quality assurance paperwork and input production data into spreadsheets
  • Have a strong focus on safety, quality, and efficiency, while constantly evaluating work practices in the spirit of continuous improvement
  • Maintain a vigilant attention to detail
  • Monitor for potential microbial contamination from the cellar to packaged product
  • Run analytical tests, i.e. ABV, IBUs, VDKs
  • Assist with yeast management, i.e. determine yeast cell counts/viability, calculate pitch quantities, monitoring yeast propagations
  • Perform startup and hourly quality checks for packaging runs
  • Maintain inventory of lab consumables, prep media for plating and swabs
  • Develop and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Communicate effectively and work well with other departments
  • Work towards achieving cross-departmental goals around efficiencies, yields, and cost
  • BA/BS degree in related field (Biology, Chemistry, Fermentation/Food Science) or equivalent experience       
  • 2+ year lab experience preferably in brewery / manufacturing setting
  • Detail oriented with drive for continuous improvement
  • Experience recording and analyzing data
  • Proven problem solving/conflict resolution skills; be able to think through issues and arrive at well-thought conclusions
  • Writing and following SOPs, using SOPs for training
  • Masters skills of multi-tasking, prioritizing tasks and working independently
  • Strong communicator and team player with respect for co-workers, supervisors, and managers
  • Ability to lift up to 55 pounds repeatedly
  • Ability to lift, drag, carry, and manipulate hoses, parts, pumps, buckets, and reservoirs
  • Ability to twist / turn and stand / walk on a continuous basis
  • Ability to work on your feet for over eight hours at a time
  • Ability to work in loud production environments (80+ db)
  • Ability to work with chemicals of varying composition
  • Ability to work in damp / wet areas
  • Ability to work at heights (eg. Scissor lift, top of vessels, ladders)
  • Ability to work all shifts, additional hours & weekends as necessary
