bStudio Ltd is in it’s second year of operation as a service provider to the craft beer industry based in beautiful Napier, Hawke’s Bay. bStudio is growing fast and maturing rapidly in terms of our systems & processes. Our Head Brewer will bring great attention to detail, an ability to interact on all levels with our craft partner brewers, and an uncompromising adherence to their valuable IP by following their set recipes.

The facility is fully managed under the international BRC Global Food Standard program which follows strict production policies and procedures to ensure our company values of exceptional service and quality product are met to exceed our client’s expectations.
We are currently seeking applications for a Head Brewer. This key role in the site Senior Management Team is responsible for oversight of the brewing, fermentation & cellar team, to ensure that quality, safety, production & cost targets are consistently met. It also has a clear strategic dimension, requiring a person with the ability to predict and plan for future needs as the business continues its rapid expansion.
Ensure all production from the brewhouse and cellar meets client specifications.
Production scheduling to optimise plant efficiency & utilisation, whilst meeting customer needs.
Ensure all operations are conducted in line with our HACCP & BRC procedures, leading improvements and changes where required.
Develop & maintain a culture of cost awareness and profit maximization amongst the brewery team.
Customer recipe formulation and collaboration; refining and improving as required with the objective of repeatability & predictability in outcomes.
Hiring, training and performance management of brewery staff.
Coaching, leading and developing the brewery team to achieve the business objectives in a manner that both gets the job done and makes everyone feel valued.
Act as the department lead at site senior management meetings.
Weekend work will be required where operational needs dictate.
Qualifications: we anticipate that the successful candidate will have
Degree level in Brewing Science/Technology, or a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science and complementary brewing qualifications.
5-10 years relevant experience, preferably in progressive craft and production breweries.
An exceptional ability to work with others and manage a team in a manner that both gets the job done and makes everyone feel valued as a part of the team is also required.
Strong problem-solving skills
Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy
Strong initiative and integrity
Strong verbal communication & organizational skills
Must be able to multitask and think quickly on your feet
Must have a positive can-do attitude
Good knowledge of Health & Safety and other regulations directly impacting production
Experience in working with BRC or similar
Fluency with Microsoft Office is required, as it the ability to gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of BOTEC (brewhouse software package).
