Thirsty Diver Brewing Company (TDB) is a start-up brewery on the Dutch Island of Bonaire in the scuba dive capital of the world. We are seeking a Head Brewer to provide leadership and ensure quality of beer and brewing practices. TDB is a 3.5 BBL brewery. Our taproom space is co-located within the brewery, in an industrial warehouse setting. We will focus on taproom sales and local distribution, with 6-8 beers and a number of seasonal options.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities
- Responsible for the entire brewing and quality control process, including scheduling, inventory, brewing, cellaring, QA/QC, and packaging/kegging operations.
- Recipe development, scaling existing recipes and collaboration with the owner to develop new and unique beers.
- Maintain inventory of raw materials and chemicals required to produce beer.
- Maintain inventory of packaging materials required to keep up with production and maintain pars.
- Perform and schedule equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to minimize brewery down time.
- Administrate training program for all production employees (including safety training).
- Maintain a clean, safe and well-organized facility.
- Good understanding of quality assurance / quality control and problem solving skills.
- Manage client & vendor relationships.
- Schedule personnel to fulfill production schedule
- Must be available Weekdays, Weekends and some nights.
- Participate in occasional beer festival and brewery events.
- Manage and work within a budget.
Qualifications
Ideal candidate has brewed on at least a 3.5 BBL system in full production, and possesses the following minimum experience and abilities:
- MUST BE WILLING TO LIVE IN BONAIRE - PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK REGARDING THE ISLAND
- 6+ years of professional brewing experience including at least 1 year as head brewer
- Demonstrated management experience leading brewing operations including:
- Recipe design
- Material ordering, vendor and contract management
- Yeast propagation and management
- Brewery cleaning and sanitation
- Equipment maintenance knowledge and experience
- Ability to identify and correct beer production and quality problems
- Strong verbal communication and organization skills.
- Ability to work independently, as well as a willingness to work as a team.
- Commitment to data‐driven decision-making.
- Good attitude and willingness to work hard.
- Organized and self-driven.
- The ability to lift 55 pounds and transport kegs with a dolly.
