Position Title:

Director of Brewing & Blending - Waterloo Brewing

Job Description:

Within our state-of-the-art brewhouse, working with dozens of award winning products, you will provide leadership and direction to the brewing and blending team members to optimize performance and quality while contributing your expertise to product design and development.
 
Specific Accountabilities:
  • Provide leadership and direction to brewing and blending group so as to optimize their effectiveness, efficiency and results while ensuring compliance to established policies and procedures
  • Provide technical expertise in all areas of brewing and blending operations including specifications, recipe development and process control
  • Plan brewing and blending production in accordance with supply planning requirements, quality standards, capacity management and cost management strategies
  • Ensure brewing, blending and associated quality standards are maintained at high levels and develop quality processes and reporting as required
  • Responsible for the kegging of products to meet sales requirements
  • Provide leadership to brewing and blending capacity planning
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with company specifications for beer, cider and spirit-based beverages to achieve analytical, microbiological, flavour and appearance expectations
  • Responsible for wort planning processes including bulk beer tank status, brewing schedule, product age, schedule attainment, tanker transfer, monthly inventories, ordering and receiving of raw materials, and housekeeping
  • Track and report on all brewing, blending and filtration material price and usage variance and take steps to address unfavourable results.
  • Responsible for labour cost management in brewing, blending and filtration.
  • Provide direction, coaching and technical knowledge transfer to the Brewing Supervisor
  • Maintain and develop policy and procedure to ensure brewing operations are in compliance with all quality, regulatory and relevant industry standards including health and safety, environmental, food safety, etc
  • Lead the new product development process for beers, ciders and spirit-based beverages
  • Identify and implement brewing and blending operations improvement initiatives that deliver quality, safety and financial returns.
  • Identify, prioritize and create business cases for can brewing, blending or filtration capital expenditures.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:
  • Post-Secondary Education in Science Related Field or Brewing Diploma or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years’ experience in brewing including a minimum 5 years management experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to plan and execute according to business needs
  • Solid command of safety and regulatory requirements
